#ArtsEdWeekIndy: Arts Education School Tours

bus-tour-01Curious to know what the arts look like when implemented in the classroom? During National Arts in Education Week, you will have the opportunity to visit two high-performing schools and learn what students experience in the arts on an every day basis.

On Wednesday, September 14 from 8:30 am to 12 pm, attendees will visit Edison School of the Arts IPS School 47 and Tindley Genesis Academy, one of the Mayor’s Charter Schools. During the school tours, those in attendance will be able to hear firsthand from the schools’ principals, have the opportunity to ask questions, and visit a handful of classrooms. At 8:30 am on Wednesday, September 14, attendees will meet at the Arts Council of Indianapolis (924 N Pennsylvania Street) where they will enjoy breakfast and be briefed on the morning’s activities. At that time, participants will be divided into carpools for the school tours. The carpools will transport participants to the schools and back to the Arts Council of Indianapolis by 12 pm.

singingThis event is FREE of charge and open to the first 50 people who register via Eventbrite at http://artseducationschooltours.eventbrite.com. Reserve your spot as soon as possible! Only those who have pre-registered for the school tours on Eventbrite will be able to participate.

PARKING: Please park in the Arts Council’s parking lot (just south of the building off Pennsylvania) or the lot across the street from the Arts Council. Parking is free and no parking passes are required.

#ArtsEdWeekIndy: Think & Drink – Arts Education Trivia Night

IMG_5237Do you remember what you learned in art class in the third grade? Do you know what fifth graders typically learn in music class? Here’s the chance to find out what you know! Come out to Sun King Brewery on Monday, September 12 from 5:30 – 7 pm to test your knowledge of arts education with a trivia night.

Attendees may choose to participate in the trivia night by filling out a worksheet, but if trivia isn’t your cup of tea, or in this instance beer,  there are many other fun activities for you to enjoy at Sun King.

Come color iconic Indianapolis murals, strike up a conversation with your friends about why you believe in arts in education, and drink Sun King’s delicious craft beer. Trivia participants will be entered into a drawing to win a $100 Prize Pack, generously donated by Sun King Brewing Company.

You will also have the opportunity to sign up to join one of four Any Given Child Indy committees – Creative Engagement, Professional Development, Budget & Resources, or Evaluation & Assessment.

This event is for those 21 and older.

#ArtsEdWeekIndy: Kickoff Celebration

Kickoff Celebration

As part of the Indianapolis community’s celebration of National Arts in Education Week (September 11 – 17), the Arts Council of Indianapolis and its Any Given Child Indy initiative, a partnership with Indianapolis Public Schools and the Mayor’s Office, will officially kick off the week at the Indianapolis Artsgarden on September 12.

This event will give members of the public an opportunity to celebrate Mayor Joe Hogsett’s proclamation of September 11 – 17 as “Indianapolis Arts in Education Week” with performances by students from Young Actors Theatre and Asante Children’s Theatre. During this event, attendees will learn about the Week of Giving and how they can support the efforts of 26 local arts organizations that are working within Indianapolis Public Schools. The Arts Council will also unveil the Any Given Child Indy 2016 – 2017 Action Plan, which includes goals and strategies that will increase access to arts education for IPS Students.

Arts in Education Week of Giving is September 11-17

National Arts in Education Week is a national celebration that promotes and showcases the important role of the arts in education. This year, Any Given Child Indy will celebrate National Arts in Education Week from September 11-17, 2016 along with the rest of the country. Arts organizations that have been funded through the Arts Council of Indianapolis’s Annual Grants Program within the past three years will be eligible to participate in an online Week of Giving administered by Any Given Child Indy.
