Storytelling Arts of Indiana

Storytelling Arts photo 1Storytelling Arts of Indiana’sa 3-hour workshop, Personal Narratives: Building Strong Writers with Storytelling, will show teachers how to use storytelling as a tool to improve their students’ writing skills. All attendees will have the opportunity to enter a drawing for two classroom residencies (1 hour for 5 days) during the upcoming school year. This workshop is recommended for 3rd – 5th grade teachers. The workshop and residencies are presented by Storytelling Arts of Indiana.

Ronen Chamber Ensemble

Ronen Chamber Ensemble logo

The Ronen Chamber Ensemble is offering a program to Crispus Attucks and Broad Ripple High Schools, which will assist their music students in preparing for the Indiana State School Music Association (ISSMA) ensemble competition requirements. Student ensembles at these two schools will be chosen with the help of the school band and orchestra directors for coaching sessions given by Ronen musicians. Each ensemble will receive two coaching sessions designed to help the students achieve an improved concept of working as an ensemble and thus achieve a higher performance level.

Partnerships for Lawrence

Youth Theater Workshops are for students in grades 1-3 and will take place at the Theater at the Fort. Partnerships for Lawrence will partner with teaching artists to provide a hands-on workshop for the kids. Three partners secured at this time are theater teacher Luis Oliva, who will provide a workshop in circus acts and mime; Adam Riviere of Playground Productions, who will provide a percussion workshop including lessons on the cultural background of each instrument’s origin; and magician Jamal Keyes, who will offer a hands-on workshop teaching the art of magic.

Kurt Vonnegut Memorial Library

Indy Eleven players, coordinator R. Townsend, along with V. Brose of Eskenazi Health join the Vonnegut Library in challenging 8th graders from Harshman Magnet Middle School (after reading Vonnegut’s book Slaughterhouse Five in any language students read best) to write 1,500 words on how coping with their own suffering and adversity has shaped their understanding of Slaughterhouse Five. The winner and runner-up for this competition will be recognized.
