Indianapolis Children’s Choir

At George W. Julian School (IPS #57), the Indianapolis Children’s Choir will offer an eight-week introductory choir program at no charge to students, and the children in this program will be featured in an ICC Concert Series performance. This program will support existing school music programs, and children who complete it will be encouraged to join the ICC. The aim of this program is to further break down barriers to music education and to build a more diverse and interconnected community of singers in the ICC. To make this possible, the ICC needs to raise $1,250 (or $50 per student for 25 singers).

ICO Corn In the Rock at IPS School 61Tall Tales & Long Tails, designed by ICO Music Director Matthew Kraemer, features 20 ICO musicians, a narrator, and Prokofiev’s timeless Peter & the Wolf. Included are lesson plans and curriculum for teachers. Tall Tales & Long Tails teaches the connection between English language arts and music. Authors and composers are both storytellers, but whereas an author uses words, a composer uses notes. Students will create word banks to describe the story and music. The ICO proposes to present this program at IPS #61 in conjunction with Any Given Child Indy. The ICO also will present the program at IPS #99 if funds permit.

Indiana Repertory Theatre

The IRT’s Student Matinee Program exists to support four foundational objectives: to produce quality theatrical experiences for students that relate directly to events, people, and issues studied in school; to offer students, many for the first time, a professional theatre experience; to provide students with opportunities to observe, discuss, and understand unfamiliar experiences, especially those with ethical and multi-cultural themes; and to give teachers effective, creative, and engaging teaching tools. Last season, 3,623 IPS students attended IRT Student Matinee productions. The IRT believes that cost is a large barrier for IPS schools to attend student matinee productions at the Theatre. Therefore, the IRT will raise funds to bring an increased number of IPS students to the Theatre in the 2016-2017 Season.
